There are three different bluetooth devices available for BMWs. One is a bluetooth only device, and the other is a bluetooth and iPod combo unit. The combo units are available for later years with the M.O.S.T. fiber optic networks (see chart), and the bluetooth only device is available for a longer series of years. Lastly, we have a bluetooth system for early year BMWs

Bluetooth Only

For several years, BMW has offered a phone option in their vehicles. However, depending on the year of the vehicle, this phone option required the use of a particular dealer provided phone. Moreover, the handsets had to be purchased from a dealership because they had special programming, called firmware, that allowed the phone to integrate into the vehicle. If you purchased the equivalent phone from your local cell phone store and plugged it into the car, you would find that it did little or nothing. Since you were required to purchase this phone from a dealership, you often had to pay $500 for a phone that costs less than $100 at a cell phone store. So if it was lost or broken, you had to purchase it from a dealer all over again. You also had limited choices in carriers, many carriers simply were not offered. These phone systems were also based on a now obsolete analog technology that is no longer serviced by cellular providers. Also, if you live in one of the many states or cities that now has laws against handheld phone use while driving, you may find yourself wearing one of those uncomfortable and ridiculous wired or wireless earpieces. You don't have to settle for this if you drive one of the best automobiles in the world....

iTronic™ Audio iPod Connection

The iTronic™ Audio will enable you to use an iPod with your car. It has a standard iPod dock connector that can be used to play audio and control your iPod from the Radio and/or steering wheel controls of your BMW. A new menu will appear in the display that normally controls the CD Changer. It will allow you to select playlists, artists, albums, etc.

CAMERAS

A note about our cameras: All of our cameras have been weatherometer tested (the apparatus in which backup cameras can be subjected to artificial and accelerated weathering tests which simulate natural weathering. Controlled cycles of ultraviolet radiation, light, salt, electric arcs, water spray, and heating elements are used to simulate the natural conditions of sun, rain and temperature changes) and are of the highest quality Sony CCD sensors.

CCD vs CMOS: The two types of image sensors that are available for rear view (backup) camera systems are the CCD ("charge coupled device") and CMOS ("complementary metal oxide semiconductor"). The type of image sensor that your rear view camera system uses will be the most important factor in determining picture quality. Besides the overall resolution, a camera that utilizes a CCD image sensor will provide significantly better images under very low and very bright lighting conditions (common in a vehicle application). In addition, CMOS sensors fail to provide an image at all, at moderately low and high tempertures (below 40 degrees and above 95 degrees). Nor will a CMOS image sensor will deliver the quality image that a CCD image sensor will provide. Many lower priced (and some more expensive) systems use the less expensive and inferior CMOS image sensor. Given the option, you should always select a rear view camera system that utilizes a high quality CCD image sensor from a well known manufacturer. Sharp and Sony CCD image sensors are the best available. If the system you're considering purchasing doesn't state that it utilizes a "CCD" image sensor, then it almost certainly doesn't.

Installation of a camera can be time consuming and you only want to do it once. At the time of this writing (August 2010), we have sold and installed over 6200 of our cameras since July 2006, and NOT ONE has failed. Each and every one is tested at the manufacturing facility and again just before shipment.

This Rear Entertainment System is NOT like many you may have seen. This system uses only the absolute best quality components from manufacturers such as Sony, Denon, and only top quality, manufacturer matched leather. The shape of the headrest, the color, grain and even the stitching will perfectly match the interior of your car. Since each set is custom sewn by our seemstress, delivery time is typically about two weeks from time of order. If you need a lower cost solution see below.

These headrest systems use the same quality components as above, however the material is color matched only. The stitching, and grain may vary slightly as well as the shape of the headrest. Shipping time is typically under 7 days.

Cartronics Tire Pressure sensors feature a military specification lithium ion battery with a projected 5 to 7 year battery life. All sensors come complete with a unique valve stem assembly which incorporates a ball joint fitting allowing the sensor to be positioned in the optimum location to prevent any potential damage in service. All sensors are guaranteed 100 percent compatible with the vehicle. Up to 40 percent lesser cost than OEM suppliers

In 2008 many manufacturers started making TPM systems mandatory on all new vehicles sold in the U.S., but that was mostly safety related to prevent accidents that could be attributed to poor tire inflation. There was probably a little bit of "green thinking" involved in there, too as tire pressure relates to fuel economy and its impact on the nation's oil reserves. Some of these OEM devices are reported to be not as flexible as the Cartronics TPM. Now you can have the current technology (or better!) on any car.

What I like about this model is that you can set the Hi and Lo alarm limits for your application. (OEM TPMS systems might not allow you this flexibility because they don't want you changing anything.) The TPM's display will show green for tires within the limit and turn to red and sound an alarm when the pressure goes outside the limits. You can also set the device to show pressure only, temperature only, or to toggle between temperature and pressure as well as set a temperature alarm. It is also one of the easiest aftermarket devices I've seen to reset when you rotate your tires. You can even hide the display away in a glovebox or armrest and it will sound an alarm when it needs your attention to a problem. The display is only about the size of a credit card.

How It Works
The wireless tire pressure sensors are mounted on your wheels, inside your tires, using special valve stems (each sensor weighs only 1.24 oz). These sensors send pressure and temperature data via a digitally encoded, wireless signal to the receiver mounted in your vehicle. The sensors/transmitters are equipped with motion detectors that turns off data transmission to prolong their lithium batteries' life (estimated at more than 7 years of normal vehicle use).
The system's receiver or display installs like a radar detector; just choose a spot to mount it and plug it into your cigarette lighter or power port or hardwire it for a factory look.
